Computer Exploratory
Instructor: Mrs. Holly Colquhoun
Summerland Middle School Computer Classes contain a mix of technology skills stranded through all three grades. Students begin each class with ten minutes of keyboarding using All the Right Type (ATRT) software. Students are asked to use home keys, keep their eyes on the monitor and to learn how to use the correct shift keys for capital letters. Students progress from a class goal of 10 words a minute in grade 6, to 15 wam in grade 7 and 20 wam in grade 8. Many of the grade 8 students are keyboarding well over this goal with some reaching speeds of 60 wam.
Classes at each grade level cover topics which include - internet safety, computer file and folder management, software instruction in Inspiration, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MovieMaker, Adobe Photo Shop and Coding. Students in grades 7 and 8 learn to build and manage online ePortfolios as apart of the curriculum.
